NOVEMBER IS NANOWRIMO!

YAY!! It's NOVEMBER!

And besides beautiful fall colors (for those of us on the East coast in the US) decorating the landscape, caramel flavored coffees and pumpkin spices EVERYTHING, what does November signify?

That's right.

NANOWRIMO!

So I'll be taking most of November off to participate. I'll have a few posts scattered here and there, but for the most part, I'll be writing instead of blogging and reading/reviewing.

I just wanted to let you know, so you'd know why I wasn't posting as much.

I've done this every year for the past five years and it's a time I thoroughly enjoy. I let my creative flag fly and attempt to concur 50,000 words in 30 days! So far, every year I've participated, I've succeeded. This year, I hope to do the same, even though I'm currently battling a bad bout of bronchitis. If any of you are participating in NanoWriMo this month, comment below and let me know what you're working on. I'd love to chat Nano with you.

Not sure what NanoWriMo is? Here's some info for the curious.

Wikapedia says:
"National Novel Writing Month (often shortened to NaNoWriMo) is an annual, Internet-based creative writing project that takes place during the month of November. Participants attempt to write a 50,000 word manuscript between November 1 and November 30. Well-known authors write "pep-talks" to keep them motivated throughout the process. The website provides participants with tips for writer's block, information on where local participants are meeting, and an online community of support. NaNoWriMo focuses on the length of a work rather than the quality, encouraging writers to finish their first draft so that it can later be edited at the author's discretion. The project started in July 1999 with 21 participants. By the 2010 event, over 200,000 people took part and wrote a total of over 2.8 billion words."

Sounds pretty awesome right? It is! I'm lucky enough that my region has local meets so I can do "write-in's" with fellow writers where we gather at local business and drink coffee, wine or eat a snack while we tackle plot bunnies together. It's a lot of fun and for anyone who loves to write, it's a great way to stay motivated to finally get that novel finished. Weather you do anything with it afterwards isn't the point. Just get those words written and see where it takes you.

There's also an online chat group for those of us who can't always make the shop meets. We do word sprints, word wars and bounce ideas of one another. And of course, have fun!
