Adam stared down into Lucy’s pale green eyes and knew he was screwed. There was no coming back from this, no walking away. If those sleek thighs rubbing restlessly together hadn’t tipped him over the edge, then her plea would have.

Still, he tried to fight it, one last push. He let all the reasons he should say no to her fly and slam through his mind. She was his best friends’ little sister. She was too damn young for him. Touching her would be a fucking sacrilege, a demon defiling an angel from heaven. But Lucy wasn’t some untouchable innocent. She was a woman, had been making decisions for herself for a long time, and right now she was standing in front of him telling him she wanted him.

Was he rationalizing this to make himself feel better about taking what she offered? No doubt. But she’d set the ground rules. Rules he could live with…couldn’t he?

Uncertainty had crept into her eyes. She expected him to make some asshole comment, to put distance between them or walk away, his usual MO when he felt himself getting too close to her.

This time, though, he didn’t push her away. He reached down, took one of her hands gripping his shirt, and wrapped it in his. Her fingers were cold. “Let’s go back to the room.” Was that his voice? That fucked up mess torn from his throat?

Her fingers spasmed in his. “You want to go back to the room?”

“Yeah, I fucking do.” He tucked her hair behind her ear, fire slamming him in the gut at the feel of her smooth cheek. God, he wanted to kiss her, but if he did that, they’d never make it back to the hotel and she deserved more than to be fucked up against some building in a shadowy alleyway. He wanted to see her face, all of her when he finally got to touch and taste her. “Let’s go.”

Lucy didn’t say a word as he led her through the crowd and they emerged out the other side to stride along the mostly quiet streets. Her fingers were still wrapped around his so damn tight, like she was afraid to let him go, like she still didn’t believe this was going to happen. Walking away, sleeping in the damn car, sending her on a bus home would be the right thing to do, but he couldn’t do it, not now. He’d go to hell for this, burn for eternity, but it would be worth it for three days with Lucy.

Worth that and a whole lot more.

NEW REVIEW! MACK DADDY by Penelope Ward:

"A wonderful second chance romance that grabs your attention right from the start. The hero is deliciously sexy and super sweet and the story delivers all the “feels”. I couldn’t put this one down!" - Craves the Angst

TITLE: Mack Daddy
AUTHOR: Penelope Ward
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
RELEASE DATE: February 13, 2017
PUBLISHER: Penelope Ward Books, Inc
PAGES: Approx. 300
InkSlinger PR

RATING: 4.5 Stars!

From New York Times bestselling author, Penelope Ward, comes a sexy, STANDALONE second-chance romance.

They called him Mack Daddy. No, seriously, his name was Mack. Short for Mackenzie. Thus, the nickname. Perfect, right?

So was he: perfect. The perfect physical male specimen.

At the private school where I taught, Mack Morrison was the only man around in a sea of women.

Everyone wanted a piece of the hot single father of the sweet little boy.

I was riddled with jealousy, because they didn’t know that—to me—he was much more.

They didn’t know about our past.

He’d chosen my school for his son on purpose, because Mack and I, we had unfinished business.

As my friend Lorelai so eloquently put it: “Unfinished business between two people who are clearly attracted to each other is like an eternal case of blue balls.” And I was suffering in pain from my case.

I was still intensely attracted to Mack. I tried to resist him, immersing myself further into a relationship with another man just to protect my heart.

Not to mention, getting involved with a parent was strictly against school rules. But seeing Mack day in and day out was breaking me down.

And soon I might be breaking all the rules.

Author's note – Told in alternating points of view, Mack Daddy is a full-length standalone novel.

REVIEWER'S NOTE: Mack Daddy is a standalone, contemporary romance written by Penelope Ward. I was gifted a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review through InkSlinger PR.

4.5 Mack Daddy Stars!
A wonderful second chance romance that grabs your attention right from the start. The hero is deliciously sexy and super sweet and the story delivers all the “feels”. I couldn’t put this one down!

The Review:
Books that grip me tight in the first page and don’t let me go until the last page are my absolute favorite kinds of reads. This is that kind of read. From the moment this book opens, you know you're in for a treat with some angsty feels, clever dialogue and a story so incredibly well done, you just hate for it to ever end. I loved this book!

Francesca O’Hara is a first grade teacher at St. Matthew’s, a private catholic school in Boston. She lives with her boyfriend, Victor, who is seventeen years her senior. Having gotten past a lot of her anxiety disorder and OCD from her youth, she’s comfortable, secure and at peace. That is until her past collides with her present and her old college roommate walks through her classroom door with his eight year old son. The same college roommate she was desperately in love with and never quite got over.

Mack Morrison has made a lot of mistakes in his time but being a father has brought a profound meaning to his life. He’s fulfilled and happy with the exception of losing the one girl who brought him joy, the one girl he truly ever loved. Moving back to Boston and enrolling his son into Frankie’s class is a desperate attempt to bring his son out of his shell with the help of Frankie who can relate to his anxiety disorder. But he’s also back in hopes for a second chance and put right what once went wrong.

First off, we get a duel POV with some amazing flashbacks to Mack and Frankie’s roommate days. Mack has a long distance relationship and Frankie is alone. Later, when they reconnect, the rolls are reversed and Frankie is the one with a boyfriend and Mack is free. Timing seems to be an issue for these two, but Mack is determined to have his girl. The parallels are so much fun. AND, it’s important to note, there is NO real physical cheating in this book, which I appreciated.

Mack was so freaking sweet! From the moment he arrived at Frankie’s classroom, he brought an air of delicious tension. He was open and honest with his reasons for being there and he was determined to get Frankie to remember their past and want a future with him as desperately as he did.

Their chemistry was super hot, but most of all, they connected on an emotional level that you don’t see a lot in romances. Usually, it’s all about the sex or the chemistry, but Mack fell in love with Frankie’s uniqueness, her quirkiness and her complete honesty. Frankie was truly original and just a lot of fun to get to know.

The Wrap Up:
This book was an amazing read. Being a long time fan of this author, I knew I would love it, especially with that amazing blurb. But this read just got better as the pages turned and all the feelings I experienced along their journey, along with the superb writing made me want to restart it as soon as I hit the last page. Sweet, romantic, energetic, heartwarming, angsty and fun. You definitely want to one-click this one.

AUTHOR: K.C. Stewart
GENRE: PNR, Shifter Romance
RELEASE DATE: June 8, 2015

RATING: 3.5 Stars!

Tired of her horrific past continually being dredged up and broadcast all over, Sadie James leaves her hometown to start over. But her new Adirondack home has secrets and dangers that change everything for her.

Wolf shifter, Tyson Cartwright is mourning the life he once knew. His past haunts him as he reluctantly relinquishes his human side. But when, newcomer Sadie James comes face-to-face with Tyson's most vile enemy, he vows to protect her--no matter the cost. As Tyson and Sadie grow closer, he struggles to keep her safe while battling his own demons. Suddenly, he must choose between saving Sadie and ultimately destroying her. Can he fight the pull of the wild or is he too far gone to save the one woman he's destined to love?

3.5 Stars!

The Review:
This was a wonderful, short, clean read with a different slant on most shifter romances. The mains were both trying to overcome horrific pasts, with the hero wanting to give in to his primal side and let go of his humanity and the heroine wanting to escape the pains of her past and get back in touch with who she really is.

Sadie James is running from tragedy and when she moves from the big city of New York to a small town in the middle of Adirondack Mountain, she’s looking for peace and a fresh start. Encountering a pair of fighting wolves while taking a leisurely walk in the woods and then adopting a stray, wild wolf who quickly becomes her silent confidant wasn’t exactly what she had in mind by a fresh start. And capturing the attention of a local wildlife officer who seems a little to interested for her liking certainly wasn't on her to-do list.

Tyson Cartwright is running from his sins. After dispensing the law in his pack as enforcer and taking a life he can’t escape from, he’s running wild, hoping the wolf quickly takes over his humanity so he doesn’t have to endure the emotional pain of what he’s done. Stumbling across a smart-mouth human in the middle of his forest wasn’t on his agenda. Neither was protecting her or falling in love with her but fate has a way of laying down the laws and taking charge just when you’ve given up.

When I say this was a different kind of romance, what I mean is most of the book, Sadie has befriended Tyson who she affectionately refers to as Fred. Fred is in wolf form for most of this book, so we get Sadie’s one sided conversations with Tyson’s human like reactions and snark. I loved this twist to the romance. Sadie finds she can confide in Tyson, mostly because she thinks he truly is just a wild wolf. But things quickly escalate and dangers arise and soon, Tyson has to decide if he wants to stay wild or come back to life and be human for the woman he’s fallen in love with.

I enjoyed how this story played out. I enjoyed the characters, the plot and I loved the townspeople. I also really liked how you just couldn’t tell what Tyson was thinking, how feral he had turned and I loved wondering how he was going to come back from the wild side to keep what was his.

My only complaint was I didn’t like how it ended. It was abrupt and short and I wanted to see more of the romance between Sadie and Tyson as a human, where he could talk and express his emotions verbally. The author does a great job of conveying who Tyson is as his wolf, but I wanted more of the romance between the two and I wanted to see life after their human connection.

All in all, this was a great read by a new-to-me author. I can’t wait to read more of this series.

RATING: 3 Stars!

There was a man in her bed and Sadie wasn’t sure how she felt about that. The wolf she once considered a pet was now her mate. She needed time to process but Owen felt it his duty as alpha to help them along into a happy marriage, starting with their honeymoon. For the next week Sadie would have only Tyson as company as they hike through the Adirondack Mountains. Figuring out sleeping arrangements with only one extra-large sleeping bag would turn out to be the least of their problems when Tyson informs her that someone has been pursuing them since the very beginning.

3 Stars!
Great ending to book one!

The Review:
This! This should have been the ending in the first book. I understand the author writing more and giving us the ending we wanted from Too Far Gone but what I hated was paying for another book in the series, to get the ending I wanted in the first book. However, putting that grievance aside, I loved what this short, sixty page novella held and the ending it gave us was much better than the one in Sadie and Tyson’s first book.

Sadie and Tyson are together now and this book picks up right where their book leaves off, with them “married” and having gone home to Sadie’s house. In this book, it’s the night of their “wedding” and since they barely know each other, they choose to take it slow before consummating their new relationship. The next day, their pack leader Owen, invites them to take some time off and travel to the pack lodge in the mountains where they can spend alone time together, talk and just be free to be themselves before meeting the elders in the neighboring town.

Sadie and Tyson have a few quick, sweet dialogue moments that cement how patient Tyson is and how hard Sadie is trying. She’s trying to get past the betrayal she feels towards Tyson for his lies and she's trying to trust again after her past and the hurt she’s endured. Tyson is trying to come to terms with being a full fledged human again with responsibilities and a mate to care for, all the while healing from the tragedy his past holds and learning to forgive himself for what he’s done. I enjoyed getting inside their heads and seeing the healing and moving forward that was taking place for them.

However, it seems not everyone is on board with Tyson and Sadie’s mating and it was fun to see this play out, with Tyson protecting Sadie and Sadie finally sticking up for herself and putting her bravery to use.

I enjoyed the way this story played out, but I will say that I wish “more” had happened. Resolutions came way too quickly for my liking and I still have some unanswered questions that I don’t think are going to get resolved since the next book is about Owen and his mate.

Nice conclusion to Tyson and Sadie’s story, but I guess I just wanted more because I liked them so much!

“You really need to go back and warn your Pack. I don’t know when Caldwell will be headed your way yet, but I could text you once I hear something. Maybe you can convince them not to be in town when Caldwell comes calling.”

“I’m not turning my back on you and your sister. If I can get Caldwell to accept me into this Pack, I can find his weak point.” He paused. “Did you tell him you found me and I wanted a meeting?”

A pit festered in my stomach as I shook my head. “No.”

He leaned against the bumper, obviously collecting himself. I could almost smell his frustration. “That’s why he hit you, wasn’t it? You wouldn’t tell them where you were.”

“It wasn’t Caldwell who smacked me.” I crossed my arms. “But none of that matters. I can’t let you get messed up in this snake pit, Luke. This Pack isn’t your problem. I don’t want you risking your life.”

I steeled myself and choked out, “Go warn your Pack and find your mate. Hopefully your Pack can defeat Caldwell, or at least avoid him, and we’ll all get out of here without messing up your life, too.”

He straightened, his jaw tight. “Sounds like you’ve got it all figured out.”

“It’s the safest for everyone.” He didn’t look convinced. I lowered my hands to my sides. “The last thing I need is another wolf going all Alpha on me. Please go. Be smart, not brave.”

I reached for the handle on the van just as he did.

And the world tilted on its axis.

His rough hand covered mine, skin to skin, and somewhere in the shadows of my soul, my wolf howled. The sound deafened me from inside out. I lost my balance, but he caught me before I fell. Staring up at him, my vision blurred as my pupils dilated and contracted. His scent filled my lungs. And from the core of my being, every part of me recognized him.

I opened my mouth to say something, but no words came. It didn’t make sense. I barely knew him. But none of that mattered. On a primal level, there were no doubts. His eyes searched my face, and finally he bent to kiss me. I wrapped my arms around his neck, clinging to him like a lifeline as my lips parted, our tongues tangling until I moaned into him. He tightened his hold on me, and his heart pounded like a sledgehammer in my sensitive ears. He felt it, too.

Whatever it was.

He growled against my lips and stumbled backward. I struggled to catch my breath, unable to tear my gaze off his. “What the hell was that?”

“Fuck.” He ran his hand down his face, chest heaving.

His throat bobbed as he swallowed hard. “I’m not going anywhere. I can’t let you go back there alone.” I frowned. “You don’t have a choice.”

“You’re right, I don’t.”

I shook my head, completely confused.

He took a slow breath, his voice deep and dangerous. “I can’t get you and your sister out yet, so I’m going in. I’m not leaving Sedona without you.”

“No.” My pulse raced at breakneck speed. “They’ll kill you.”

“Only if they think I’m still with the Pack in Reno.”

At the moment the only thing I cared about was keeping him safe. I’d survived in this Pack so far; I could hang on a little longer. “It’s too risky. You’re not thinking straight.”

He caressed the edge of my jaw, the simple touch sending tingles through my entire body. “They will never hurt you again.”

“Luke, this is nuts.” Just the thought of them killing him was making me physically ill. “Please.”

He kissed my forehead and whispered, “You’re my mate, Raven.” When he moved back, intensity darkened his eyes. “And if any of them ever try to touch you again, they’ll have to kill me first.”

That was exactly what I was afraid of.
