I was laughing out loud one minute and enjoying the ultimate in those delicious tummy flutters and coveted chest pangs the next. This was a fun, romantic, slightly angsty read with adorable characters and a highly entertaining story. I couldn’t put this one down til the very exciting end ... and even then, I wanted more.
Story/Characters...
A creative re-imagining of a beloved folk tale, Rachel Van Dyken crafts a most intriguing adaptation of Cinderella with a modern day twist in The Bachelor Auction. This book has everything. An intense and brooding prince set on not finding love. A sweet, innocent and oppressed heroine who’s quirky yet tenacious. An eccentric eighty year old uncle who likes to throw down at raves. A barn full of unconventional farm animals who can’t decide if they are pets or humans. Two seriously wicked sisters who are as pretentious as they come. Two mischievous brothers who define the term man-floozy. A geriatric fairy godmother who could really be classified as a sexual deviant. And a naughty cock.... rooster, that is!
Jane was the youngest of her family. Losing her parents early in life, she made her dying father a promise to keep the family together. However, her two older sisters never felt that family bond like Jane did and used her in every way possible. My heart broke for this girl. She tried so hard, only to be stepped on time and again.
Brock was brooding and sour from the start, but one look into Jane’s big brown eyes and his entire world shifted. He’s running from memories of his past and a deep seated guilt he never should have felt.
Brock and Jane’s backstories will totally hit you in the feels! And their chemistry? It was exciting and passionate and so very sweet. I enjoyed watching these two fall helplessly in love, all the while dishing out witty banter that left me in giggles. The climax had me glued to the pages as Brock’s conviction to win his girl made my heart beat faster! And I have to mention the side characters antics, which made for some side splitting hilarity.
The Wrap Up:
This novel was sweet, funny, sexy and full of swoon! Absolutely brilliant and just a an all around fantastic read.
