“All my life, I battled with the knowledge I was twisted… fucked up to want something so deliciously dark—wrong on so many levels. But then slave fifty-eight entered my world. Hissing, fighting, with a core of iron, she showed me an existence where two wrongs make a right."
Tess is Q’s completely. Q is Tess’s irrevocably. But now, they must learn the boundaries of their unconventional relationship, while Tess seeks vengeance on the men who sold her. Q made a blood-oath to deliver their corpses at Tess’s feet, and that’s just what he’ll do.
He may be a monster, but he’s Tess’s monster.
Reviewers Note: Quintessentially Q is book two in the Monsters in the Dark series and is an Erotic, Drama, Contemporary written by Pepper Winters. I received this eARC from the author in exchange for an honest review through CBL Book Tours.
Dark, Intense, Dramatic and Outright Shocking! Two Monsters Who Can Only Survive Outside the Dark If They Are One Inside the Light!
The Review:
I’ll never be the same again!
My Feels...
I dont even know where to start with this review. These characters... this story... absolutely flayed me. It cut me open, splayed me out and drained me of everything. I know that sounds dramatic but thats how I felt when I hit that last page. I went through so many emotions... so many angsty, damn emotions while I lived through the confusion, the happiness, the horror, the sorrow and then absolute awe and amazement while reading this book. And then finally, the stunning, powerful ending that left me in complete wonderment as the controlling monster did the unthinkable for love.
At one point, my soul completely shattered and my hoped died along with Q’s and Tess’s. This book wrenched tears from me I don’t normally shed for fictional characters but I’ve been on this sordid, turbulent journey with these characters twice now and I’ve grown obsessed with them. So of course I felt their pain and anguish as clearly as they felt it in the story. Thats just how wonderfully written this series is. My heart hurt. It felt abused and ripped out and I wanted... no.. needed a happy ending for this couple.
Did they get it? I'm not telling :) Read the book.
So many feelings surfaced while gliding through these gut wrenching pages... one by one... all at the same time, they just bombarded me and left me knowing with certainty, that for me, this is my favorite book of 2013!
Story...
I usually give detailed thoughts of the story, sprinkled with certain moments from the books that stood out when I write my reviews but if I did that with this story, I feel like I would take away the surprise, the angst and the emotions you are guaranteed to experience while reading it. I could spend hours going over and contemplating every page, every moment, every experience of this book but you need to go into this story with an open mind and without expectations because I can assure you, by the time you are finished, and can finally breath once again, you’re going to look back on it, as I did, and thank the powers that be that Pepper Winters needed to share with us the story of Q and Tess.
I will say this story picks up four days after the first book ends so we get to see the characters lives with hardly any time span, which I loved! Also, the story is told in alternating POV’s between Tess and Q! How awesome is that??? WAY AWESOME, thats how! :)
Quote Spotlight...
You’ll never be free of me. I’ll never be free of you. It’s fate who decides, and fate gave us each other.
Characters...
I’ll never look at characters the same way again and be able to place them in a certain criteria. These two obliterate the lines of black and white, burn the grey areas to the ground and take the reader into a whole new spectrum of dripping, bloody red.
Q is a complicated men. He’s what society might consider a monster. But Tess has her own demons and together, they just fit perfectly. They were well on their way to finally finding in each other what they’d unconsciously been looking for their entire lives. But fate is a cruel Mistress and she swooped in on their potential happiness and ripped them to shreds. What these two characters go through, what they endure and what they are willing to face to find each other in the darkness will consume you from beginning to end. If you thought Tear of Tess was a hard read, this one will have you mentally checking yourself by the time you’re done.
But it was so very much worth it. This story will do things to your soul you won't forget. The writing is dark, poetic beauty and the story itself is perfectly haunting.
Quote Spotlight...
I didn’t care that societies protecting women would be horrified with what I let Q do to me.
The world didn’t matter. This was us. This was our fuckedupness learning how to live without guilt and shame.
The Wrap Up:
This read won't always go in the way you expect or want it to and there are things in it that will haunt you and I found I had to take several breaks while reading it just to clear my head so I could go back to it. Its extreme. Its dark. Its angsty and its terrifying in some parts. But my God it is one fantastic, perfectly written book! And the story doesn’t stop here. When I hit the last page and saw we’ll be getting another part of Q and Tess’s journey in 2014 in book three called, Twister Together, I fist pumped the air and may have screamed and jumped around in excitement, but I admit to nothing! I'm just not ready to let these characters go!
