He is my forbidden, shiny apple.

One thing you should know before you judge me;
I saw him first. I craved him first. I loved him first.

“Did you ever play in the street? Like, where traffic was? You know, like kickball or whatever and, when cars came, you yelled ‘Pause!’ and got everyone off the street. When it wasn’t clear, you called ‘game on’?” Another crash of thunder shook the windows, and she wondered how the kid could sleep through it. She closed her eyes, hoping for strength but only finding more fear. She really just needed to get her mind off it…

“Sure,” he said. “We called ‘pause’ when there were cars until we could play again. Still not following you, though. Do you have a point?”

“You know how I work for you and all that?”

He sighed, and she was close enough to him that his breath ruffled her hair. “Of course.”

“Pause,” she said. Before she could talk herself out of it, she went up on tiptoes and touched her lips to his.

He didn’t move, and she didn’t have the bravery to go further with it. They stood there, frozen, his breath whispering across her cheeks and her lips just barely touching his. Between the heat of his body and that coursing through her veins from her impetuous drinking, some warmth managed to seep back into her, and she felt almost safe for a second.

Then another crash from outside and she shuddered, pinching her eyes closed. He must’ve felt it or taken pity on her, or who knew what his motives were, but his arms closed around her and his lips slanted across hers. If she’d thought he would bury her fears and distract her, she was right. Nothing mattered outside that moment.

Lazy hunger curled through the kiss, his experience clear in the slow burn of his mouth dragging across hers. His tongue slipped into her mouth, and she twined her arms around his neck to better brace for the sexy torture of his embrace.

She felt the impact of the wall behind her and wasn’t sure if the crash she heard was her system going into overdrive or the sound of the storm. He tasted like sin, and she was starved for more. His hands gripped her hips and she pressed into his body, thrilling at the sexual tension skating across her flesh like fire.

“Chels,” he whispered, his mouth tracing a path down her neck.

“Game on,” she gasped.

He stilled, backing away to meet her eyes. Another flash illuminated his face. He looked hungry, like he could eat her up in one big bite.

The sight of that look, on his face, made her shiver with want. But he wasn’t for her and this was a ridiculous idea. She couldn’t play on his level, knew it on a bone deep level.

Not that she’d been able to resist a taste.

God. At least in two weeks she would tell him goodbye. Then she wouldn’t have to look at his face and be reminded of her moment of weakness. Or how wonderful his mouth had felt against hers.

She ducked under his arm and fled as fast as her legs could carry her, only stopping once her bedroom door separated them. Leaning on it, she bit her lip. Everything in her, down to the last cell, wanted to go back out there, climb him like a tree, and let him take her in whatever depraved fashion he might want to try.

Tomorrow, she’d probably be full of regrets. She’d crossed a line, stupidly. He was her boss.

Somehow, she half wished she could quit now, so she could—
What? Go back to her world while he lived in his, high atop the world in a glass tower of money and power? No, she’d be better off as far away from him as possible, since pursuing anything was an act of masochistic idiocy.

Virginia Nelson likes knights in rusted and dinged up armor, heroes that snarl instead of croon, and heroines who can’t remember to say the right thing even with an author writing their dialogue. Her books are full of snark, sex, and random acts of ineptitude – not always in that order.

“Oh, darling. You’re going to be so easy to conquer.” His finger reached under my chin and pulled my face back to meet his. “I can’t wait to strip you out of that dress and watch you crawl around my home naked. I’m going to spank that delectable ass with every damn pervertible I can find. Hairbrushes, wooden spoons, spatulas, and I might even try a damn baking sheet. That ass of yours is always going to be prettily pink and perfectly swollen while you’re under my roof.”

My name is Mark Matthews. I own half of London, and the part I don’t own, I’m working on.

Life was all going swimmingly well until Michael Redcliff entered my life, demanding that I marry his daughter. Actually, swap demand for blackmail. He’s got goods on me that I want no one else to see, so for the time being I need to be his little lapdog.

I’ll marry his daughter. I’ll give him all the status, money and power he can handle… for as long as it takes me to get a divorce. You see, I can’t renege on our little arrangement – but she can. I give her a week. One week and she’ll be screaming the place down for her legal counsel.

I am never wrong.

We had the chance to ask Christina a few questions about herself and The Velvet Chair! Here's what she had to say...

Q) Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

A) Okay, I’ve always been into BDSM since the age of about 13 when I read Anne Rice’s Beauty Chronicles. From there, I devoured everything I could in the genre. I guess you could say I have a dominant personality, with a softer submissive side - but only in the bedroom! The day job keeps me busy, and I’m also a columnist for Marquis Magazine (It’s a fetish magazine) - yet another outlet for my naughty ideas! My favourite thing in the world is travelling, but my preference is somewhere with sun, sea, and sand. Oh, and the other ’S’ word. You know what I mean, right? ;)

Q) How did you choose the genre you write in?

A) It’s a genre I’ve always loved to read. I’ve been a voracious reader all my life, so eventually I think I just had all these ideas in my head, and I needed to put them down on paper. I have so many half-finished stories on my laptop, they could keep me going for years! I also like to write in other genre’s though, like romance and paranormal romance. Science fiction may also be on the cards in a few years time.

Q) Where do you get your ideas?

A) They are mostly products of my overactive imagination. I’m always daydreaming and the voices in my head are constantly whispering lol.

Q) How did you come up with this book’s title?

A) It was a feature in the heroine’s new prison - which is her bedroom in the billionaire’s mansion - if she’s been a good girl. If she’s not, she gets the naughty room, which is basically concrete, cuffs and chains. Ooh err!

Q) What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?

A) The End. I always love writing THE END. It’s such a great feeling to know that all that hard work has come full circle. In this particular book, though, the last chapter was a whole lot of fun to write. It’s a little Romeo/Juliet in style, and I think most of my fans hate me for the cliff hangers I nearly always leave them with.

Q) What project are you working on now?

A) I have a special agent BDSM novel called ’Sparks’ which I’m now writing, and when that’s finished I’ll get started on the sequel to ‘The Velvet Chair’ which is called ‘The Velvet Caress.’ That should keep me out of trouble for a bit! :)

Q) Is there anything that you would like to say to your readers and fans?

A) Yes - thank you so much for reading my work! A particular thank you to my street team fans who take time out their day to leave me awesome reviews and give me their feedback on ARC’s. You are THE BEST!

Q) Is anything in your book based on real life experiences or purely all imagination?

A) Bwahaha! My books are purely all imagination. If you’re reading them, it won’t take you long to figure out why that is…

Christina Mandara is a USA TODAY bestselling author and tends to write dark romance with lashings of kinky naughtiness. Her favourite pastime is travelling, and if it involves sun, sea and… sand then it’s all good.

In her spare time she’s usually cuddled up with a good book, exploring the countryside or baking in the kitchen. In fact, she loves her kitchen so much she’s one of few woman who wouldn’t mind being tied to it! Her first and foremost love is writing, however, and more often than not you’ll find her on a laptop spinning tales of romance, erotica or dark, paranormal fantasies.

She’s a big fan of BDSM in all of its glorious forms, and her favourite item in the toy closet (a box simply isn’t big enough) is her riding crop.

"Burn Before Reading is a spirited, unique look at teen angsts, love and life. It held the best kind of heartache with one delicious, tension filled moment after another." - Craves the Angst

TITLE: Burn Before Reading
AUTHOR: Sara Wolf
AGE GROUP: Young Adult
GENRE: Romance
RELEASE DATE: May 18, 2017
PUBLISHER: Self-Published
PRINT LENGTH: Approx. 626
RATING: 5 Stars!

A girl meets a wolf.
And a wolf meets his match.

Beatrix Cruz - Bee for short - has exactly one goal; kick her dad's severe depression in the ass. She's got a foolproof plan;

1. Get into the elite high school Lakecrest Preparatory on a scholarship
2. Study like crazy
3. Graduate into NYU and become a shrink

Nothing can stand in her way - not even Lakecrest's rich, hot, and notorious Blackthorn brothers. Not Fitz Blackthorn, with his flirting and his elite computer hacking, not Burn Blackthorn, with his intimidating height and emotionless face, and certainly not sinfully handsome Wolf Blackthorn, who hands out 'red cards' to students who displease him, and expels the ones who keep doing it.

But when Bee stands up for a student, she pisses off Wolf, and he's suddenly itching to pull her scholarship from underneath her. To keep it, Bee strikes a deal with the devil - father Blackthorn himself; spy on Mr. Blackthorn's sons, become friends with them, and learn their secrets in exchange for staying at Lakecrest.

Betraying the Blackthorn brothers' trust is supposed to be easy.

Becoming friends with the Blackthorn boys makes it hard.

And falling in love with Wolf makes it impossible.

REVIEWER'S NOTE: I received this eARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

5 Blackthorn Brother Stars!
Addicting and emotional! It brought all the feels!

The Review:
This book! This book had all the feels! From start to finish, I was spellbound! Wolf, Burn and Fitz were unique, layered, complicated and complete bad-boys to the core. Bee was a fresh dose of awesome! Her character was the perfect mix of quirky, beautiful and determined.

Burn Before Reading is a spirited, unique look at teen angsts, love and life. It held the best kind of heartache with one delicious, tension filled moment after another. Coupled with smart, lively writing, this is a must read!

Beatrix Cruz is in over her head. Deciding that her father's illness is all on her to make better, she gives up her dreams of becoming a writer to join the elite and over privileged populace at Lakecrest Preparatory, in hopes it will appeal to NYU, where she’s set on getting her psychiatry degree. Making excellent grades and towing a straight line are just two of the things she needs to do in order to keep her scholarship. The other? Don’t get on the bad side of the Blackthorn brothers, which is hard not to do when she sees Wolf bullying her new friend, Eric.

Burn, Wolf and Fritz Blackthorn rule Lakecrest. They walk the halls, passing down judgment to those they think need it. But not all is what it seems, especially when one scholarshipper butts in and puts Wolf in his place.

Oh these characters! Where do I even start in describing how much I loved each and every one of them!

Let’s start with the boys. Burn, Wolf and Fritz were so incredibly amazing. Each brother stood out and was unique with their own set of qualities and traumas. Each one handled the pain of their past a little differently. Burn masked his pain with avoidance. Fritz masked his pain with good times and sarcasm. And Wolf... oh my precious Wolf. He masked his pain and trauma with asserting control where he previously had none. They were flawed, damaged, a little bitter, too old for their young age and absolutely beautiful, both inside and out.

Bee was so much fun! I just loved her. She was quick witted, intelligent and I loved her one-liners. Her altruistic motives pulled my heartstrings in every direction. I could feel her desperation and her loneliness pouring off the pages. She wanted so desperately to help her dad, that she lost sight of who she was. Wolf, through his own traumatic past, could see that and though he went about it the wrong way, he tried to pull her from that self sacrificing ledge.

Mistakes were made, on both sides. Emotions were explored. And we got a close look at the damage words and actions can cause, when careless. Everyone was dealing with their own pain and some were smart enough to see that, learn from it and grow.

The Wrap Up:
This story didn’t wrap up with a pretty little bow, spelling out everyone's HEA. It wasn’t perfect, but it was life. And that pretty much sums up this story as a whole. It was about... life... and everything that can get in the way of living it, if you let it. Or how you can find your own kind of happy if you cherish yourself and those around you and just let yourself ... be.

I’m aching to reread this one! I loved it. And like I said, these characters were damaged, a little bit broken and with the excellent and entertaining writing, this book brought the feels. If you read only one young adult novel this year, it HAS to be this one!
