Though things have calmed down just a tiny bit - or more accurately, the shock has worn off - the fight is still on. It's not over ... yet. There's also a lot of false news coming out, accusations of articles written by she-who-shall-not-be-named and playing it off as real information written by actual journalists, as she tries herself to falsely defuse the situation. It's hard to tell what's true and what's not and there are just a lot of bad feelings all around.
Make sure to check Twitter and Facebook with the hashtag #cockygate over the next few days. A lot of people are reporting what they know, going live on Facebook, making Youtube videos about it and Tweeting about it.
SIDE NOTE: It was brought to my attention that there may or may not have been a court date on the 6th, as I originally posted. So I've taken that out of the information listed above. Like I said, a lot of different information coming through and it's hard to know what's real. As of yet, nothing has been settled.
ANOTHER SIDE NOTE: I want to apologize for the amount of hashtags that went out on Twitter about this giveaway. It flooded the news feed and readers who were looking for information on cockygate got this giveaway listing instead of the news they were looking for, so I took the retweet out of the Rafflecopter and I want to apologize for any upset it caused. I was trying to help promote awareness for the Cocktales book and the cause, and instead, it caused a problem. So I'm sorry for that. Also, please don't hashtag it if you do tweet it out. That'll help cut down on more hashtag spam. Thanks guys! <3
Anyhow, just trying to keep awareness open and give away more awesome stuff. Sooooo, on to the giveaway!

Just like before, I'm offering up to ONE WINNER,
* a copy of COCKTALES: A Cocky Collective,
* PLUS a "Fight Like A Romance Reader" mug, pictured below.
Just enter the Rafflecopter for your chance to win.
GOOD LUCK!!
NOTE: Below is the #cockygate info from my first giveaway, in case you missed it and want to know more...
********************
Many of you might have heard, and for those of you who haven't, we've had some upheaval in the Romance community. Where I understand wanting to protect ones work and their brand, I don't think trademarking a commonly used word in the industry, as well as emailing threatening letters to your peers is good business practices. It alienates and draws a line between what is right and what is responsible. There were better ways to go about trying to protect ones work then with those kinds of bullying tactics.
In light of the #FightLikeARomanceReader / #FightLikeARomanceAuthor / #Cockgate controversy, I'm doing a giveaway to support to cause.
What is this all about?
FROM THE COCKTALES ANTHOLOGY WEBSITE:
'Cocktales' is a limited-release anthology (available *only* from May 26 – August 26, 2018) of original, never before published material, some of which is raw and unedited. Each story was specifically written for this anthology.
The goal of the Cocktales Anthology is to raise funds to fight against obstruction of creative expression. Specifically, what we believe are obstruction attempts through the trademarking of common (single) words for titicular use in books / or as a book series (eBooks, print, and audio).
*ALL* net profits will be donated to:
1) Authors already impacted by creative-obstruction (10%), and
2) Romance Writers of America (RWA) (90%) as a general donation intended for their Advocacy Fund.

ReplyDeleteWant to read ALL the stories! Love the authors and support what they are trying to accomplish. I agree, wholeheartedly, with what they are standing for: freedom of speech, and that NO ONE can copyright a common word, especially one that's been in use for decades; not only as a descriptor, but also it's part of the name of a specific breed of dog! That's ludicrous!
