BOOK BLURB:
From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new, sexy standalone novel.
It seemed like a good idea at the time. Look up Landon Roderick, that boy from childhood whom I’d never been able to forget—even though he so easily forgot about me—and call him.
Then again, anything sounds like a good idea when you’ve had a little too much wine before bed, right? It was supposed to be just a quick, meaningless, prank call. Instead, I went off on him—unloading thirteen years of pent-up emotions.
I didn’t think he’d call me back.
I certainly could never have anticipated the weeks of sexually tense phone conversations that followed as I got to know the man he’d become.
Turned out, Landon had never really forgotten me, either. That special connection we had was still there. I opened up to him, but there were also things about me he didn’t know. And he had his own secrets.
Over the countless hours we talked on the phone, I wondered what would happen if we actually saw each other. One night, I did something impulsive again. Only this time, I went to the airport and booked a ticket to California. We were about to find out if one phone call could bring two lost souls together or if my drunk dial really was all just a big mistake.
A complete STANDALONE.

5 “Rana Banana” Stars!
... exceptional in every possible way ...
The Review:
THIS! This is what I’ve been needing for a while now. I’ve been in kind of a book funk. I was reading some good reads, but nothing was giving me those “feels” I was so desperately craving ... until this book! I LOVED Drunk Dial so much. It had everything. It WAS everything! Childhood friend, friends to lovers, second chances and feels, Feels, FEELS!
Story/Characters...
Rana Saloomi thinks about her childhood friend, Landon Roderick, often. It’s been years since she talked to him, but she still, from time to time, pulls out the notes he sent her when they were kids, and reads them. After relaxing with a full bottle of wine one night after work, her inebriated brain thinks it’s a good time to call up the boy she crushed on so many years ago and give him a piece of her mind for not saying goodbye when her family was forced from their apartment above the garage Landon’s parents owned.
From the moment they reconnect through a misguided drunk dial, you can tell Landon is instantly interested. He did NOT want to let Rana off the phone and I loved that so much! Landon was insanely hot, but also amazingly sweet. After hearing from Rana again after all these years, he quickly realized he wanted more than late night phone calls, which confused him because he never wanted more before. He finds comfort in talking to Rana. She makes him feel and she makes him laugh and his little boy crush blooms into so much more. He sees the potential ... if only she’d let him in.
But he’s keeping secrets and he’s terrified their new found connection will be obliterated by his past.
Rana was so careful with herself. She’s keeping major secrets too and she feared what Landon would think after all this time. She had solid reasons for being scared and I loved how the author set these characters up. Rana’s past, like Landon’s, had painful moments and sharing those was hard. I was sucked into this story and the emotional conflict from each character. They were genuine and also original. Even their jobs were fun to read.
And their chemistry? HOT, HOT, HOT! Both of them had painful pasts, but they weren’t scared to try new things with each other and they were open and communicative. In fact, this book had some of the best personal reveals and dialogue between two characters I’ve ever read. I thoroughly enjoyed their heart-to-hearts because they were realistic and they didn't hold back.
And FUN! This story was filled with lighthearted, funny moments that eased some of the tension and seriousness. From Rana’s “make me laugh” stories to her strange and curious roommate antics, I was honestly smiling through a huge part of this book.
The Wrap Up:
Have you ever read the last page of a book, lay it down carefully and just sigh, thinking, “wow, that was exceptional in every possible way”? Yeah, well, that’s how this book made me feel. I’m a huge fan of this author and I always look forward to a release from her. From the moment this book opened up, I knew it was going into my reread pile and by the time I got to the end, I knew it was going in my favorites-of-all-time pile, too! Amazing writing. Amazing story. Amazing characters. I loved it!
