BOOK BLURB:
Devon Jackson is a smug, arrogant prick. He’s also CEO at Worldwide Airways, and I’m the lucky one who lands a job as his PA—a job I soon learn to regret taking.

I do absolutely everything for him, from organising his appointments to picking up condoms for him every Friday afternoon.

Why do I put up with it?

Because, despite it all, I am obsessed with him and have been since I was fifteen. He treats me like dirt, yet I still come back for more.

To him, I’m untouchable. And not only to him, but every other man on the planet. The fact he’s my brother’s best friend has seen to that. They’re both possessive jerks.

And I put up with it…for a while.

Once I put my foot down, the dynamic changes. And it is at that moment I find out how he really feels.

In fact, I find out so much more than I bargain for. Not only is Devon host to some serious demons, but he also holds a very big, dark secret. A secret that could destroy our relationship before it gets a chance to begin.

The Review:
Seriously? You gonna end a book like THAT?

Shock value aside, I applaud that ending. It was incredibly brave to leave things like that. I’ve never read this author before and I had no idea what I might find between the pages. I love dark reads. I love read that forgo the light and take me past my comfort zone and I love reads that put me in a “tailspin”. This book definitely has it’s dark elements and it’s sordid moment, which I really enjoyed.

I also applaud the story itself. It was intense, hot and just a little bit twisted. And it kept me reading all the way through. I didn’t want to put this one down.

As for the characters, well, I both loved and hated that I both loved and hated them.

Devon Jackson ... how do I describe this character. Contemptible man-whore might be an appropriate way to describe him. From the moment you meet him, he comes off as a complete and total ass. Not always the intensely hot, seductive and sexy kind, but sometimes the jealous, insensitive, insecure kind that you just want to strangle.

He’s cruel and loves to exert his power over Andi, who is his overly protective best friend’s younger sister. Devon grew up with Charlie and Andi, called them and their parents family, and helped shield Andi from would-be boyfriends or anyone who might hurt her. After hiring Andi as his PA, as a favor to his best friend, he assures Charlie he’ll watch over her while he is away in the military. But from the moment this book opens up, Devon takes great strides to put Andi down, degrade her, display his jealous temper and possessive nature in dictating everything she does and he’s aggressive in flaunting his conquests in front of her. He could be sexy and awesome one minute but an insecure jackhole the next. I both liked and seriously despised him. And seeing as how the book ended, I think that was the author's intention all along ... so brava!

Andi was caring, forgiving and just trying to have a normal life. At first, I didn’t care for her character. She was a doormat and let way too many things slide as Devon put her down or hurt her. Her love for him blinded her to just how much he was walking all over her and he did an amazing job making her believe she was nothing to him. But then she put on her big girl panties and things got fun! I enjoyed the banter between Devon and Andi and I really enjoyed their chemistry.

I also liked the way this story progressed. When Andi and Devon decide to throw caution to the wind and be together, they really steamed up the pages with their hot and sexy bedroom scenes. But it was clear that Devon was harboring demons and hiding secrets and when everything comes out, I wasn’t shocked because I saw it coming, but I was devastated for both Andi and Devon because I couldn’t see how they would come back from all of it. And then.... the last chapter happened and I was beyond stunned.

I want for my anti-heroes to have redeeming qualities. They can be devious, dark and evil, but I need to find that spark in them that lets me know there is hope. Finding that spark in Devon wasn’t completely impossible, but it was REALLY effin’ hard. Not necessarily because he was all that dark, but because he was so immature for his age, so insecure and his jealousy got the better of him. He didn’t exert his dominance in a sexy way. He was a bully and harasser and was constantly apologizing for his wrong doing, yet kept doing the wrong. For those reasons, it was hard to love him.

I kind of loved Charlie, though. He was just a big ol’ overprotective teddy bear and an absolute hero. His story was emotional and hard to read because of the real life situations he faced. The author did an amazing job with him and his struggles.

TAILSPIN is a brave, edgy read with a nontraditional ending that left me speechless and wishing for more. I enjoyed it enough that I’m definitely giving this author's other books a try. I’m all for unconventional reads and this one fit the bill nicely.
