BOOK BLURB:
Starting over isn’t easy, especially when the past keeps coming back to haunt you.
Flynn O’Neill and Jaynie Cumberland thought life outside the foster care system would be a breeze. Now eighteen and sharing a home in the quaint, little town of Lawrence, West Virginia, their new start should be nothing short of idyllic.
Unfortunately, it is not.
Flynn and Jaynie are discovering that picking up the pieces of their shattered lives and moving forward is far from easy, particularly when the past keeps rearing its ugly head. And then, as if things weren’t tough enough, they are told the evil Allison Lowry, their former foster sister, may be released from prison early.
Committed to not allowing that to happen, Flynn and Jaynie begin to search for ways to keep their former tormentor behind bars. In doing so, dark secrets are uncovered. But instead of setting this young couple back, these new developments allow Jaynie and Flynn to grow closer than ever. As their commitment to one another deepens, these two broken people find new purpose and, more importantly, realize the healing they so deeply desire is finally within reach.
Today’s Promises is the beautiful, stirring conclusion to Flynn and Jaynie’s journey that first began in Tomorrow’s Lies.

4.5 Amazing Stars!
The Review:
This book was so well done! It was both heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time. Told in dual POV’s and picking up basically where the first book left off, we revisit the lives of Jaynie and Flynn, Mandy and the twins Cody and Callie, and get to see life after their escape from foster care and the damaging effects it had on all the characters.
Jaynie and Flynn have survived the Lowry house and are trying to find normalcy in their new lives. Their once budding romance is now filled with love, compassion and understanding as they both try to cope with all they’ve gone through. The author doesn’t let these characters off easy though. Life outside captivity isn’t carefree. Their independence comes with it’s own set of realistic problems and she shows the true hardships of life after such horrific abuse with poor Jaynie having the most difficulty in finding inner peace.
Enduring nightmares, secretly hoarding food, a huge distrust of people in general, are just small examples of the heartbreaking conflicts the author gives her characters. And she does it brilliantly. Their struggles were so real and emotional and that was due to the incredible writing. She brings their tragedy to life but she also allows the characters to have the most amazing support system within each other. When Jaynie backslides, Flynn is so understanding and comforting. There’s true, unconditional love and devotion between the two of them and a connection so deep that not even the threat of the villainous Allison Lowry getting out of prison, could break them apart.
On top of that, there’s a mystery to uncover and a detective that brings with him all the pain and hurt Jaynie and Flynn thought they could hide from when he asks them to revisit the Lowry estate. Jaynie was so brave and strong, even though she might not agree. She has to make a choice to either live in fear for the rest of her life or face down her demons. Flynn was nurturing and caring and had the patience of a saint. His love for her was unyielding and watching them come to terms with their past was intense but healing.
Mandy and the twins Cody and Callie, have their own struggles but what I loved most about these two books is that even though the characters could have fled their captivity and gone their separate ways, they stuck together and made their own little family. Their bond is strong and even though life is not perfect, they found their happiness in the end.... together.
The Wrap Up:
This read was outstanding. You could feel the desperation and the brokenness in these characters but you could also see the light at the end of their dark tunnel. I was consumed by this read and couldn’t put it down once I started it. And that epilogue? Beautiful! Absolutely wonderful and a perfect conclusion of the emotional journey these characters have been on.
Definitely a must read!
NOTE: This is not a stand alone and must be read behind the first book, Tomorrow’s Lies.
