4 “Bucket List” Stars!
The Review:
I really enjoyed this read! It was light and fun in all the right places and held just a small bit of angsts in other places. It had a wonderful, push-pull with a great sexy, romance.
Story/Characters...
Alicia Forkes is visiting the country of Randovian, in hopes of securing a military contract with their king. Upon arrival, she decides to check off one of the items on the bucket list her and her best friend, Brian, prepared before he tragically died of cancer. The item? Have sex with a stranger and then ditch him. She ventures into a masked club hoping to find a man who will help her check this item off before she can chicken out. And she does...
But her past is about to catch up with her.
The opening chapters has me hooked with a cute spin on the Cinderella story! It was thrilling and adventurous and a little bit quirky as Alicia tries to shed her shyness and take charge to complete one more item on her bucket list.
Unbeknownst to her, her one night stand is the one man she never wanted to see again. Leo and Alicia were childhood sweethearts and she believes he’s betrayed her when she needed him most. Watching these two fight their sexual tension and the magnetic pull they had towards one another, and then watching them fall sweetly and slowly in love once again was exciting and fun! I enjoyed Leo’s passion and dedication to his country and to Alicia, as he was determined to win her over once again while still remaining true to his path in life. He was smart, sexy, compassionate, competent and genuine.
For the most part, I enjoyed Alicia’s character as well. She was smart and sassy but she was also a little bit broken by her past. And even though she had built walls to protect herself, I did think she was a little too judgmental and closed off. I felt her resistance to listening to Leo at all, even when she felt he was telling the truth, made her too stubborn.
But...As much as I enjoyed this read, I wanted “more”...
I wish we had gotten more on Leo and Alicia’s past. We get hints to their sweet childhood summer romance and we get hints as to what life held for them once they were separated but I would have loved to have gotten flashbacks or a solid story to Alicia’s struggles when her father died. Instead we only get bits and pieces and very few details. Maybe if the story delved deeper, I would have connected with her more.
The Wrap Up:
This was a quick, sweet, romantic story with a strong minded heroine and a compassionate and capable hero. It wasn’t too involved or emotional which made it a perfect afternoon read!
