We Asked K.A. Linde What Inspired The Affiliate?
Here's what she had to say...
One day I was reading a book called Sex with Kings by Eleanor Herman that discussed the various mistresses in European court. I thought to myself what if there was a world where the mistress was actually institutionalized. They were held in high esteem and had as much or more sway than the queen. I wanted them to have their own official position at court and were not just women the king slept with, but brilliant, beautiful strategist who gave advice and basically ruled. Out of that I came up with the idea of the Consort.
But then I thought how do you become Consort? And I decided that there should be some kind of higher educational system that makes up the court. These people would be the best and the brightest, ambassadors, military strategists, and nobility. These people I called Affiliates and for the men, High Orders.
