“She healed me. She broke me. I set her free. But we are in this together. We will end this together. The rules of this ancient game can’t be broken.”
Nila Weaver no longer recognises herself. She’s left her lover, her courage, and her promise. Two debts down. Too many to go.
Jethro Hawk no longer recognises himself. He’s embraced what he always ran from, and now faces punishment far greater than he feared.
It’s almost time. It’s demanding to be paid.
The Third Debt will be the ultimate test...
REVIEWERS NOTE: Third Debt is the fourth book in the Indebted series and is an Adult, Dark Romance written by Pepper Winters. I was gifted a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review through The Rock Stars of Romance.
5 “Do You Trust Me” Stars!
Seriously Shocking and Relentlessly Riveting! I Couldn’t Put This Book Down!
The Review:
Holy hell! W-What just happened? That ending... THAT ENDING HAS SLAYED ME!
No one and I mean no one can write a cliffy like this author. She lures you into a false sense of sedation where things are never right but mildly calm. Then wham, your entire world is rocked and you’re left wide-eyed and slack jawed!
Mind. Fucking. Blown!
This series so far has been a raging tilt-a-whirl and just when I didn’t think things could get more complicated, she goes and puts the whammy on me. Third Debt is a well timed bomb ready to detonate and detonate it did! From the beginning of this read, your completely at this story’s mercy and enthralled to the earth shattering end.
Waiting for the next installment is going to be absolutely torture. But yeah, I totally love every minute of this intense, dark, angsty, soul-sucking read!
The Story Rundown:
In the last book, Nila was rescued from Hell only to be thrown into Purgatory where the wondering and waiting are unbearable. Her vertigo has taken over her life and she morns and craves the release of her sinister, gilded cage. She should be happy she’s free, but she left behind her other half. She should be safe, but it’s all an illusion and the Hawks are the magicians.
Since Nila left and his true desires discovered, Cut has given Jethro one last chance to prove he can be the deserving heir to the Hawk legacy. Giving in to Cuts demands, Jethro spends his days in a blessed fog, a void so unreachable, he’s become a lone glacier surrounded by icy waters. Not even his beloved sister or brother can find their way through. This false sense of relief has delighted his father and in doing so, he’s been welcomed back into the family fold. Now he must fulfill his family's destiny and carry out the final debt.
Characters and Thoughts...
Nila. From the moment she stepped on the canvas she’s been a fluctuating, indecisive character. She couldn’t seem to come to a conclusion about her heart, her sanity or her motives in the situation she was forced into. And I totally understand. She’s surrounded by demons and the one person she thinks she could find solace with is an iceblock determined to keep her away. I have loved her strength and her fortitude even when it wavered. She’s unlike any heroine I’ve ever read. She’s got this light that even the Hawks can’t extinguish, even though they’ve all tried in one way or the other.
Jethro and the Hawks. Jethro is an icy island surrounded by thundering waves but Nila seems to be the only one who can break past those currents and find the real man underneath. Even in his self-medicated void, she managed to find him.
As much as I love Jethro, there were moments in this story that I wondered WHY Jethro was so determined to disconnect. You know he has feelings for Nila so why not break out into the total badass that we know him to be and take this situation under control. I was disappointed in him with how he craved that mind numbing void when he could have so much more. Then the author gives us the reasons. She FINALLY tells us what Jethro is... and though it was a well thought out explanation and it fills in all those blanks, I wasn’t sure I liked it. It almost tipped the story in a direction I wasn’t prepared for, but I should have held back my reservations. Once we explore why Jethro “feels” the way he feels and is the way he is and actually get to see inside his mind, that explanation becomes something “more” and it’s actually really beautiful and intense and so exceptional that it’s absolutely perfect.
And it explains everything. Added on top of that, the devil himself, Cut, has thought of every possible avenue to keep Jethro in line, there’s not much Jethro can do on the surface. It’s going to take an incredible amount of cunning to accomplish the impossible and I have no idea how any of them are going to get out alive.
I can honestly say that from the beginning I didn’t know which side Kestrel's allegiance lay. I thought he was playing sides or biding his time to see what the outcome would be before he made his move. I am thrilled that we finally learn more about him in this book and we finally get to see where his mind is truly at.
The Weavers. It’s simple. Vaughn nor Tex are any match for the vileness that are the Hawks.
What might have started out as a way to repay the grisly misdeeds done to the Hawks has turned into something so horrifically dark and abhorrent that the Hawks have superseded anything the Weavers ancestors have done.
The Wrap Up:
I have no idea how this story will end. I can only imagine with two more books, things are going to get even worse and I didn’t think that was possible. And the ending? Left me completely horrified.
But I totally trust that Pepper Winters is going to again lay gold at our feet with a sordid, passionate, extremely intense journey and though I know from past experience I’m totally unprepared for it, I’m excited and thrilled to see how this all unfolds.
