GUEST POST from ALLIE BURKE Author of VIOLET MIDNIGHT:

Today's Guest Post is from the incredibly talented Allie Burke, author of The Enchanters, a New Adult Fantasy, Paranormal Romance series about two unique people from different worlds, one of which is suffering a painful past and the other who hopes to find the love she's been dreaming of. This incredible series is steeped in both myth and truth. Allie takes us through the beginning stages of creating The Enchanters series and explains where fantasy meets reality.

Thank you for joining us today Allie!
It's an honor to have you...

Writerly Intuition
by Allie Burke

Unlike all my other novels, articles, and short pieces, Violet Midnight and The Enchanters Series as a whole is the product of imagination with very minimal research other than lots, and lots, of reading.

When I sat down to write Violet Midnight—the first thing I had ever written in my life—I had wanted to write a novel that was purely fantasy. The love story, the Enchanters, Jasmyn Lake, the auras—all of it—was a world that I, and my readers, could fantasize with. It was a world that could be easily fallen into when our desire was to fall out of this one. Little did I know that wasn’t what I was going to get.

The Enchanters and their concept…are real. Their names are made up, Jasmyn Lake is, obviously elements can’t be physically manipulated (that we know of), but The Enchanters as people, they are real.

I had a conversation with a somewhat new (at the time friend) who told me that a mutual friend of ours could see auras. I don’t even think I was really listening up until that moment. (I was drunk.)

“Wait, what?” I perked up.

“We all can,” he said. “Or we could. At one time. Have you ever held a baby? Do you ever notice that they look around your face and above your head instead of into your eyes? It’s because your aura is different from their parents’ and they are intrigued.”

I would urge you to try this.

These days, I could tell you how to see auras yourself, child or not, if you really wanted me to, though I don’t know why you would. Seeing auras is not the magical experience it is in The Enchanters. I mean, it is, that is, until it’s not.

It wasn’t a big deal, I guess. That I had already created something, or, two things, that—unbeknownst to me at the time—already existed. That the physical energy and the concept of auras in my books was already a thing, and had been since the beginning of time. We all know the energies of people in one way or another. You’ve heard it a million times: “She has good energy when she walks into a room.” Before writing The Enchanters series and doing practically a year’s worth of research on the subject (not for the purpose of “fixing my books” [because again, they were meant to be purely fantasy], but really just for personal reasons), I would have typically judged such an expression as a figure of speech rather than an observation to be taken literally. Comparatively, if you heard me say something like “She has bad energy; I don’t like her” now, it would translate to “Don’t get too close to her; she’s secretly a serial killer or something”.  We were all born with the ability to read the energy of each unique human being, to communicate with each other without words, to use said energy to heal ourselves: mind and body.

We were all born an Enchanter.

The sheer intrigue of this realization (unfortunately) cannot be attributed to my figurative brilliance as a writer, since I didn’t realize I was doing it. But it is an intriguing subject, regardless.

More than any other living Enchanter, Jane is in tune with her own energy and her own gifts and she embraces that. She is beautiful; her magic is pure in her intentions.

Violet: The most sensitive and wisest of colors. This is the intuitive color in the aura, and reveals psychic power of attunement with self. Intuitive, visionary, futuristic, idealistic, artistic, magical.

Elias is protective and very strong-willed. You cannot change his mind once he has made it up. He is driven by his sexuality and has been known to keep Jane grounded.

Red: Grounded, realistic, active, strong will-power, survival-oriented, powerful, energetic, competitive, sexual, passionate.

Christian is calm. Above all else, Christian is calm. He barely knows the word stress, let alone anger. He is balanced and serves as Jane’s tightrope.

Green: A healer, also a love-centered person, represents growth and balance.

Cameron takes care of everyone around him in one way or another. He is the oldest Enchanter in Jasmyn Lake, and plays the role of your favorite grandfather: allowing you to solve your problems on your own but standing by should you need a helping hand.

Silver: Spiritual abundance, receptive to new ideas, intuitive, nurturing.

Whether it is reading, writing, or living, they say to practice what you know. Which is great—I do that, too—but when we’re talking about escapism, a fantasy of yours that has the potential to wrap its arms around you like a comforting embrace; you should practice what feels right. Follow your gut, your intuition, your heart. Every person that comes in contact with you will be able to tell the difference. And nine times out of ten, it will just…work. For you.

About the Author...

An American novelist from Burbank, California, Allie Burke writes books she can’t find in the bookstore. Having been recognized as writing a “kickass book that defies the genre it’s in”, Allie writes with a prose that has been labeled poetic and ethereal.

Her life is a beautiful disaster, flowered with the harrowing existence of inherited eccentricity, a murderous family history, a faithful literature addiction, and the intricate darkness of true love. These are the enchanting experiences that inspire Allie’s fairytales. From some coffee shop in Los Angeles, she is working on her next novel.
