BOOK BLURB:
Denny O’Callaghan is afraid to open his eyes.

He’d been out drinking last night with the guys, and his head throbs, his arms hurt, and he can’t remember what he’s done.

He opens his eyes. Blood. On his sheets. His pillowcase.

Then he gets a call: his ex-wife was murdered last night.

He desperately tries to piece together what happened. But he can’t explain how he got the scratches on his arms, the police want to know about the domestic violence report his ex filed against him, and his buddies say he was raging against her last night before he stormed off on his own.

Right about the time she was murdered.

A thrilling page turner...

The Review:
I always enjoy Gregg Bell’s way of telling a story and Bloody Sunrise was just what I’ve come to expect from him. Gripping, thrilling and with a shocking ending, this book is a must read!

Story/Characters...
Denny O’Callaghan wakes up one morning with no memory of the night before, covered in scratches and sporting a painful head bump. The last thing he remembers is drinking at The Wild Bull with co-firemen ... and then it all goes blank. Not unaccustomed to blackouts when he drinks heavily, he doesn’t give it much thought until a phone call from a friend informs him that his ex-wife has been murdered and the police are investigating.

A thrilling page turner, this book takes us on a wildly mysterious journey as Denny tries to recall what happened to him that night, how he got injured and who could have murdered his ex-wife, all the while digging deep into Denny’s alcoholism and the temptation for him to drown out the world around him with yet another binge drinking session. There are plenty of suspects interjected throughout the story, and you just don’t know if Denny is the actual criminal behind his ex-wife's murder or if the real culprit is combing the streets looking for their next victim.

Denny was a complicated, but likable character. I could feel his desperation, his confusion and his loss. He was truly in a terrifying situation and frantic to remember what seemed to be just out of reach. With each chapter, I became more and more invested in discovering who killed Radisha and suspecting everyone, right alongside Denny.

Could it have been a hate crime, a drunken rage, a crime of coincidence, a crime of passion? You just don’t know for sure. And that’s what I loved most. I had my hunches. I had my theories. And as the author lays a subtle, well hidden path of suspicion at every turn, I just couldn’t suss out the mystery completely. And that was the most thrilling part!

The Wrap Up:
I want to be wow’ed when I read a suspense novel. I want to be enthralled with the mystery and I want there to be some shock when it’s all laid out before me. With creative, fast paced writing that draws you in completely, this book did just that. It had an exceptional story, a thought provoking plot and a surprise ending that floored me. This one is definitely going in my reread pile!
