The one thing he could do for her was let her go. Until he couldn’t.
When Thieves’ guitarist Shane Jones lost his close friend to a freak accident, Krista Conner helped him through the worst of his grief. He kept their late-night trysts a secret to protect her from the tabloids, and when she broke up with him, he let her go.
But he never got over her.
Months later, his world is rocked again by the death of his brother mere weeks before the biggest Thieves album yet. Grieving and desperate for peace, he tracks Krista down, craving the salvation he found in her sweet spirit. Only this time, he’s determined not to leave.
Krista left Shane because her life was a mess. She’s rebuilt it, piece by challenging piece, making some hard decisions along the way. She’s settled into a new city and a new life, and for the first time in a long time, she’s content and happy. Then Shane turns up, promising to stay, promising to care. Promising everything.
Shane’s the one she wants, but the toughest choice she made could drive him away for good.

GUEST POST from AMANDA K. BYRNE
We asked Amanda what inspired her to write BROKEN DOWN. Here is what she had to say...
The inspiration for Broken Down came from a couple of places. I read Kristen Ashley’s "Mystery Man" a few years ago and while I loved the idea of a guy sneaking into a woman’s bedroom every night for some smexytimes (like Hawk does with Gwen) I did have some…issues with it as well. (For the record, Mystery Man is like crack and I ended up devouring the other books in the series). Issues aside, the idea of two people using each other purely for sex stuck with me, but I couldn’t figure out how to work it into a story I was comfortable with.
Then one night I was messing around on the Internet instead of writing (not unusual) and somehow ended up on the Wikipedia page for the band Sevendust. I knew they’d recorded a tribute song called “Angel’s Son” after the death of James Lynn Strait, lead singer of the band Snot. Apparently the members of Sevendust were friends with Strait, and as I read further, I found more tragedy later in their history – lead singer Lajon Witherspoon lost his brother and another friend (Dave Williams, lead singer of Drowning Pool), both men dying in 2002.
Sometimes, you can’t make this stuff up.
I decide to smash the two together and see what happened. A semi-famous rock star dealing with unimaginable loss, taking comfort and losing himself in sex, but with just one woman. So that’s how I ended up with a story about a rocker who’s getting tired of the life and the woman who told him to leave when she couldn’t handle being his fuck buddy anymore. Broken Down deals with a lot of heavy issues…substance abuse, the toll it takes on loved ones, abortion, grief and loss. But at its core, it’s a story of second chances and realizing dreams change and sometimes, what you want is right under your nose the entire time.
