After her parents were murdered, Layna Blair spent three years on the run—until Marine Sergeant Blaze Johnson stepped in and saved her. With him, Layna knew safety for the first time…but two weeks after shipping out for another tour in Afghanistan, Blaze comes home early.

When Layna sees the jagged wounds covering his body, every truth she thought she knew is destroyed. Blaze is distant and angry and though her heart is shattered, Layna desperately tries to keep their relationship together in the face of another tragedy. When the tenuous bonds holding them together are ripped apart by a revenge-hungry maniac, Layna must trust her survival instinct and bury her past for good.

But the enemy is two steps ahead, and before she can take action, Layna’s hand is forced by his deadly demands—save herself or save the man who risked his life for her freedom. Blaze saved her once. This time it’s her turn to protect him.

We asked Sybil what her top five favorite authors were and why... Here's what she had to say!

My Top Five Favorite Authors by Sybil Bartel

I just want to say a big thank you today to Craves The Angst for hosting me and for helping to spread the word on my latest release, IMPOSSIBLE CHOICE. I’m so excited to be here and I get to talk about one of my favorite subjects, authors! For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Sybil Bartel and I write Contemporary Romance and New Adult Romance for Harlequin’s Carina Press. And today, I wanted to share with you my top five favorite authors and why. (It was SO hard to choose only five!!!) So, without further ado, here goes. And oh, these are in no particular order because I love them all!

Nashoda Rose – If you love angst and drama and broken heroes so wounded but so full of determination, look no further. Noshoda is a master! Her Tear Asunder series combines all of my favorite things in a romance novel. Rockers, MMA, human trafficking, angst, desperation, alpha heroes, intrigue, danger, oh she has it all and it’s in a beautifully written package you can’t put down!

Joanna Wydle – Joanna is the queen of alpha MC heroes! She weaves her stories so tight, you fall into the depth of her Motorcycle Club world and you never want to get out. Yes, there is crime and murder and lawlessness but she makes you want to step into the book and spend an evening with these characters because you know it would change your life. And also because you want to see these MC men in person!

Lee Child – While not a romance writer, Lee Child does amazing things with character development. Jack Reacher is one of the truest, well imagined heroes I know. I love how Lee Child makes his character struggle without ever swaying from who Jack Reacher is as a character. Plus, Lee Child is the king of un-wasted words. He never uses a word in a sentence he doesn’t need.

Lori Foster – Is there a romance story Lori can’t write? I love all her series, especially The Men Who Walk The Edge of Honor series. What happens when a Military hero is no longer in the service? What does he do with all of his specially trained skills? You have to read them to find out—they are fabulous!

Abbi Glines – Abbi Glines does amazing things in the New Adult genre. She perfectly captures the angst and drama of the genre while weaving her stories into series you wish would never end!

Thank you so much for spending a little time with me today! Happy reading!
XOXO

ABOUT THE AUTHOR...

Sybil Bartel grew up in Northern California with her head in a book and her feet in the sand. She dreamt of becoming a painter but the heady scent of libraries with their shelves full of books drew her into the world of storytelling. She loves the New Adult genre, but any story about a love so desperately wrong and impossibly beautiful makes her swoon.

Sybil now resides in Southern Florida and while she doesn’t get to read as much as she likes, she still buries her toes in the sand. If she isn’t writing or fighting to contain the banana plantation in her backyard, you can find her spending time with her handsomely tattooed husband, her brilliantly practical son and a mischievous miniature boxer…

But Seriously?

Here are ten things you probably really want to know about Sybil.

She grew up a faculty brat. She can swear like a sailor. She loves men in uniform. She hates being told what to do. She can do your taxes (but don’t ask). The Bird Market in Hong Kong freaks her out. Her favorite word is desperate…or dirty, or both—she can’t decide. She has a thing for muscle cars. But never reply on her for driving directions, ever. And she has a new book boyfriend every week—don’t tell her husband.
