RATING: 4.5 Stars!
CLIFFHANGER: Yes!
BOOK BLURB:
Homeless, hungry and desperate enough to steal, Doe has no memories of who she is or where she comes from.
A notorious career criminal just released from prison, King is someone you don’t want to cross unless you’re prepared to pay him back in blood, sweat, pu$$y or a combination of all three.
King’s future hangs in the balance. Doe’s is written in her past. When they come crashing together, they will have to learn that sometimes in order to hold on, you have to first let go.
Warning: This book contains graphic violence, consensual and nonconsensual sex, drug use, abuse, and other taboo subjects and adult subject matter. Although originally slated to be a standalone, KING is now a two part series.
REVIEWERS NOTE: I received this eARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
4.5 “You’re Mine” Stars!
Sexy, Fun and Intense. I Couldn’t Put This One Down!
The Review:
Doe doesn’t know who she is. Waking up in a hospital with no memory, no family and no place to go, she’s quickly thrown into the world unprepared and soon finds herself roaming the streets, starving and in desperate need of shelter and protection. Stumbling into an opportunity to sell herself at a party, Doe has to put her pride to the side in order to survive. What she didn’t expect was to become a captive to a man who makes her mouth water.
I enjoyed Doe’s character so much! This girl was snarky, inquisitive and strong. With all she’d been through, she still held her head high and kept her self worth in tact. She’s easy to befriend and her character was well written. And I enjoyed watching her go head to head with King.
King has just done a three year stent in prison and he’s looking to find some inner peace. What he doesn’t expect to find at his welcome home party is a rail-thin waif who calls to him in a way he never expected.
King is a fearsome fucker! And he’s a total contradiction. He’s all moody, intense and dangerous. He’s also caring, protective and sincere... until he’s not. He deserved the title of asshole he and Doe bestowed upon him. With some of the things he did to Doe, I sometimes wanted to kiss him silly but I also sometimes wanted to beat him senseless. The man definitely has layers, not to mention he’s panty-dropping hot, he was also scary, reckless and totally edible! Yes, even when he was being a complete asshole.
King and Doe are at odds the instant they meet. Doe’s quiet side explodes into word vomit she can’t control and King’s commanding presence and isolation finds an almost desperate need to hold Doe close. These two were HOT HOT together. They start slow and build to something really intense but also really sweet. Prison changed King and he finds himself at odds with who he used to be. Doe can’t remember her past and finds herself at odds with who she needs to be. Together, they find peace and protection in each other. It was beautiful watching King fall and Doe rise.
And then there’s Preppy. As much as I liked King and Doe, Preppy was a fun, bright light that completely stole the show! Every scene he was in had me grinning and flipping the pages to see what antics he was up to next. I wanted... no NEEDED, to know more about this guy. And then.... well, you’ll just have to read the book to find out... but I will say. My heart? BROKEN!
And I have to give a HUGE shout out to the glimpse we get of Jake and Abby from “Dark Light of Day”! After reading that small bit, I went back and read it THREE. MORE. TIMES! It was fun getting a sneak peak into how they are doing.
The Wrap Up:
This author does a fantastic job dragging her character through a raging storm all the while keeping them strong and grounded. I enjoy her writing a lot and this story had some great characters in it. Doe, King, Preppy, Bear... they all stole little pieces of my heart. And that ending? Wow!! I’m dying to know what happens next. That cliffy was a bit of a jaw-dropper. Bring on the next book, Tyrant! I can’t wait to see how this all plays out.
