BOOK BLURB:
We all have that someone we can’t forget, the summer it all began, and the sleepless nights wondering what went wrong.

For Gage Montgomery, that someone is Layla Baxter. When he was 18, he took one look at the chocolate-haired bookworm with porcelain skin and knew his life would never be the same. But it all came crashing down when Layla suddenly and mysteriously disappeared from St. Simons Island -- leaving him with nothing but her angel wing pendent around his neck. For 12 long years, Gage couldn’t shake what happened, if he’s the one to blame, wondering where Layla might be. When their paths finally cross, he’s determined to get the answers he’s spent his life searching for -- and to get the girl, too. Quiet Angel is a story of hope, survival, and lost love made new again.

“I missed you, too, but you were never far.” Gage touched his shirt with the wings inside. “You were always there.”

4.5 “Angel” Stars!
A Delightfully Brilliant Read that Totally Brought the “Feels”.

The Review:
Absolutely amazing! Quiet Angel is a sweet, beautifully told story of about young love, broken hearts, second chances, entwined destinies... and life in all its unpredictable entanglements. Add in a wonderful romance with two amazing main characters and a cast of incredible sub-characters and you have a “stay up all night” read that you just can’t put down. Told in third person narrative with a two part segment stemming over the main characters first meeting as teenagers and then reconnecting twelve years later, this fantastic story brought the angsts and the romance.

The Story...
Sixteen year old Layla, running from pain and betrayal, escapes to her estranged grandmother's house for a summer of uncertainty in the hopes of healing. She never thought she’d meet the one person who could stand the test of time... literally. After the best summer of her life, she finds herself running once again and it would be twelve long years before her destiny would come full circle.

Gage’s life had been mapped out for him since birth. He’d never seen the uncertainty of it all until he meets the one person who suddenly completed him in every way. After the most amazing summer he’s never had, he finds himself left with a broken heart and a tangible reminder that it wasn’t all just a dream. Twelve years later, he comes face to face with his past and the one girl who could fill the lonely void he’s been dealing with since he was eighteen.

Thoughts...
Layla was a complicated character. She had so much betrayal surrounding her that she didn’t trust blindly and she erected walls that kept her from living free. I enjoyed her character and all her layers and I understood her reluctance for the good things in her life. However, there were times when I thought she was too resistant and not understanding enough. Gage goes out of his way to show her how much he loves her at every possible turn and there were times when she threw that love aside and dangled her righteousness around to shield herself from the happiness he was trying to give her.

But after thinking about her character, I understood her and her motives. She was very independent, which stemmed from years of being alone in the world. I think she failed to see just how true and heartbreakingly open Gage was because it wasn’t something she could recognize. She’d never truly had it before. And sometimes she unknowingly pushed and tested him in order to protect herself. But I loved that we saw her growth at the end of the book. The author does a phenomenal job giving us that complexity and making us really think and feel for her character. All in all, Layla was a lovely, likable character with a light inside her that shined.

I absolutely loved Gage. He was so sweet, loving and adorable. The things he did to give Layla peace of mind were swoon-worthy. He romanced her, was patient with her (for the most part) and he was completely wrapped up in her. The only complaint I had about his character were the frequent complaints about waiting for sex. It seemed to be a running theme for him and his throwaway comments about how he wasn’t getting any did start to get repetitive but the man was amazing. Even after all the heartbreak and uncertainty Layla put him through, he powered through it and gave her what she needed. He was VERY well written.

The Wrap Up:
I really enjoyed this read and I loved the epilogue at the end that wrapped everything up nicely. This authors gives us a creative, enticing story and I loved the minor slant towards “spiritual beings”. The cast of characters were fun and delightful, throwing in laugh out loud moments beside the angsts. I stayed up all night reading it for a reason. It was just that good.
