BOOK BLURB:
Step right up and meet Jay Fields: Illusionist. Mentalist. Trickster.

I think in triangles. You think in straight lines.

I show you a table and make you believe it’s a chair.

Smoke and mirrors, sleight of hand, misdirection. I trick and deceive.

But most of all, I put on a good show.

The world thinks I killed a man, but I didn’t. Bear with me. It’s all a part of the plan.

Revenge is what I want. I want it for me and I want it for her.
I want it for all six of us.

She doesn’t remember me, but she’s the reason for everything. She’ll be my prize at the end of all this – if I can hold onto my willpower, that is. Maybe I’ll slip up a little, have a taste, just a small one.

So go ahead and pick a card. Come inside and see the show. Look at my hands, look so closely that you can’t see what’s happening while you’re so focused on looking. I’ll be destroying your world from right here in the spotlight.

You’ll never see me coming until it’s too late.

I’ve only got one heart, and after I’ve pulled off my grand deception I’ll hand it right to her.

So, sit back, relax, and let my girl tell you our story. You’re in for one hell of a ride.

5 Spectacular Stars!
Ingenious, Unique and Romantic! This was a PERFECT read!

The Review:
This is a new author to me, but after being suggested this book by a couple of reading buddies, I decided to take a chance. It wasn’t a hardship. I mean, if I decided I didn’t like it, at least I had a pretty cover to oogle at, right? But the thing is, I didn’t just LIKE this book, I completely and totally LOVED it. The story was phenomenal. It was touching, intense and mysterious. I loved how it felt very adult, yet held the essence of childlike wonder as the hero plays out his illusions, creating a secretive, energetic vibe all the while finding love and exacting revenge. The characters were a delight, the dialogue was quirky and playful and the theme of friends-to-lovers was exceptionally done.

I enjoyed every moment of this read and I was completely immersed from the first page to the last. And if this authors other books are anything like this one, I’ve found a brand new sparkling gem to enjoy!

Story...
Matilda lives a very regular life. She’s twenty-three, still living at home, works for her father's small law firm as his secretary, sews beautiful clothing in her spare time as a second job and is very unlucky in love. Tragedy mares her past, leaving a broken but not shattered household. She takes care of her father and she’s a loving, giving young woman who is heartbreakingly kind to others. She’s also shy and her awkwardness leaves doubt that she’ll ever meet the white knight she’s been dreaming of since childhood.

That is until the incredibly handsome and mysterious Jay Fields walks into her life.

Jay’s life has been a tumultuous journey since birth with a physically abusive father and then a mentally abusive uncle. He’s depended on himself for most things. Tragedy also took things from him and he’s not as easy to let it slide as some others might be. Turning to the wonders trickery and magic provide, Jay takes his childhood fascination of illusion and the intellect of people-reading his uncle ingrained in him and has decided to exact revenge on those that hurt him.

What he didn’t expect was for it to be so hard to be around the one person he wanted everything for.

Characters...
Matilda was perfect and very relatable. I loved everything about her. She was normal but extremely shy and her self confidence had been shattered by an event in her past which left her family a bit broken. But she never dwelled on this. She never used it as an excuse. She strived for a good life and searched for unyielding love.

Jay was wonderful, sexy and mysterious. He was a man with a mission which you could tell right from the start. His obsession was evident but he was also giving, loving and charming. I loved the way he watched and protected Matilda. And the small clues he let slip slowly, left a very powerful feel to the story.

From their first meet, Jay and Matilda spark a fireworks display brighter than a fourth of July festival. Jay is reluctant to progress with a relationship of any kind, knowing what he has to do to achieve his goals but resisting Matilda is the hardest thing he’s ever had to do.

They start out as friends and even though you know both are feeling the sparks, they withhold, for their own reasons, causing a glorious tension and wonderful slow build that was fascinating to watch. It was done perfectly. The author injects humor, angsts, steam and intrigue all wrapped around a beautiful story. I loved the friendships, adored all the characters and enjoyed the friends-to-lovers plot between Jay and Matilda.

The Wrap Up:
When I hit the last page, I had the biggest, dorkiest grin on my face and realized, my cheeks were sore and my nails were shorter and I still had butterflies in my stomach. From beginning to end, this was a perfect read with funny and witty moments, intense and suspenseful scenes and a steamy, hot as sin chemistry between the hero and heroine. I can list this, without a second thought, as one of my favorite books this year! I can’t wait to read more by this author!

And just because I couldn’t conclude this review without saying it... but JAY NEEDS HIS OWN BOOK!!! He definitely has a story to tell and there were many moments in this book that I wondered what was going on behind those spectacular eyes of his. I’d love to see his POV of all the things that happened in his life. Hint-hint ;)
