RATING: 4.5 Stars!

BOOK BLURB:
The dark secret Kayden has kept hidden for years is finally out. Worse, he's facing charges for battery. The only way to clear his name is for Callie to speak up-something he'll never ask her to do. Instead, he'll do whatever he must to protect her . . . even if it means letting go of the only girl he's ever loved.

Callie knows Kayden is going back to his dark place and desperately wants to save him. But that means facing her greatest fear and admitting her own painful secrets aloud. The thought of breaking her silence terrifies her-but not as much as the thought of losing Kayden forever.

Deep in her heart, Callie knows the time has come for her and Kayden to forget the pain of the past. With the help of her friends Seth and Luke she makes a plan to show Kayden the life they could have. But can she convince him they can make a fresh start together-or is she already too late?

4.5 “Healing” Stars!
Intense and Emotionally Dark But Full of Heart and LIFE!

The Review:
Wow! Talk about an emotional drain! But I absolutely couldn’t put this read down! I enjoyed this book, a lot! The first book sucked me right in and I wanted to see how these characters lives played out and the author did a brilliant job pulling me in a second time and keeping me glued to the pages.

The Redemption of Callie & Kayden picks up close to where the first book ends, on that huge cliffy we were left with, not knowing what the future held for either Callie or Kayden.

Soon we find Callie and Kayden separated...
Kayden separates himself from Callie thinking he’s doing it for her own good but Callie is trying desperately to break through to him and let him know he’s loved and cherished and he’s worth fighting for.

These two characters were ruled by their demons...
For every step forward, hope seemed to be snatched right out of their tenuous grasp. My heart broke for the emptiness Kayden felt. He was such a beautiful soul who was just so lost and really had no desire for a connection or a lifeline. He was about as emotionally “rock-bottom” as one person can get. But even with all that hopelessness swimming around inside him, Callie’s determination and love managed to break through and watching these two surface a raging riptide that was determined to suck them under, was wonderful. After everything they’d been through and are still going through, it was beautiful to watch them find each other and find a reason to keep going within themselves.

This read was emotionally dark...
I found myself immersed in the lives of these characters. Callie was struggling to find her way but she was closer to the light and trying to drag Kayden along with her. I’ve loved Callie from the beginning. She was broken in a way you didn’t think she could come back from, but with the help of her bff Seth, she started to find her footing and then connecting to Kayden in book one, she started to find her spark. In this book, her spark is what keeps her afloat as she tries desperately to save Kayden from himself.

Kayden was so deep in his own emotional fog, he could barely see in front of him. This book vividly touches on some serious subjects not often talked about. Depression, fear, pain, self-harm, suicide, rape... My heart broke for these characters as they try to cope with all the pain and suffering they’ve had to endure. There were times I just wanted to shout at them to “Speak up! Tell someone what’s happened to you!” But I also understand their pain and fear was seeded long ago and it’s burrowed deep and had been given years to grow. It was hard to break free. Thankfully they found the will to move forward together. These two were fighting for each other, even when they’d given up on themselves.

This book is about betrayal of the worse kind...
The adults and peers who should have protected and nurtured them, have had a hand in destroying them and hurting them in ways they’ll never fully recover. But with each others support, they are learning to live with the scars and have the loving life they deserve.

But this book is also about redemption, fighting for yourself and fighting for those you love...
Callie, Kayden and even Seth are at the beginning stages of healing and acceptance and moving forward with the love and support they so desperately needed... and deserved. The next book is about Luke and Callie’s roommate, Violet. I can’t wait to see what deep, dark secrets Luke’s been hiding. There’s some serious pain going on with him...

Seth’s little side story with Greyson was sweet and perfect. I loved Seth as Callie’s bff and I enjoyed the acceptance Luke and Kayden had for Seth. It was literally the four of them against the world.

I wished for...
As much as I liked this book, I wished we’d gotten a better resolution to Callie and Kayden’s story before moving on to another set of characters. Callie and Kayden have begun to heal but they are still both very fragile and in an uncertain place. There was no resolution from the people who hurt them and I’m anxious to see how that plays out in book six.

I know that the next three books focus on Luke and Violet and then the sixth book is back to Callie and Kayden, but I don’t like switching characters in the middle of a story like that. I like finishing up one set before moving on to another, even if they are all intertwined. But regardless, I’m happy to get more from the series as a whole!
