Aire by Lena Goldfinch Review:

Goodreads Book Blurb:
A tale of Legends reborn, royal intrigue, and an unforgettable, heart-melting romance that will sweep you away.
Annalisia is a seer, a princess with a courageous spirit—and a soft spot for Legends.
Jovanni is a Legend, a commoner with no patience for pampered royals.
Principessa Annalisia is stunned and conscience-stricken when an unknown enemy mistakenly abducts her maidservant. Determined to find the girl, Annalisia disguises herself as plain Anna and slips away from the palace. She tracks down Jovanni, her maidservant's daring older brother, and they soon begin to search together. As they uncover clues, Anna also discovers a kindred spirit in Jovanni. But would he be so free with her if he knew who she really was? Doubtful. Even so, she reveals her secret gift of visions to him, and in so doing disobeys the orders of her beloved grandmother, the queen.

With Jovanni, Anna can almost imagine she’s like any other seventeen year old girl, free to pursue the longings of her heart. When she learns that he also has a secret—he's a sentinel, an ancient shapeshifter who can take the form of a falcon—it seems as if they were destined to be together, as in the legends of il Sentiro. Though Anna is tempted to wish otherwise, she can’t forget that she’s a princess and it's her duty to marry another. Meanwhile, their hunt leads Anna ever closer to danger, for she herself is being hunted.

A princess and a commoner.
They never should have fallen in love...but they did.
AIRE is a lush, romantic fantasy, inspired by ancient Italy and Turkey.

A Charming, Fantastical Adventure!

The Review:
You know how, sometimes, after reading a book, you are left with this light, airy feeling and you know that the time you just spent with the characters and story is one you’ll not let go of for a long while to come? This was one of those books. I loved this fascinating, thrilling, fantastical journey from the moment I read the first paragraph, til the very last sentence.

Characters...
Anna was a wonderful heroine. She was compassionate, brave, strong and resilient but she was also smart enough to rely on her friends and allies. She knew her limitations and she knew her strengths. Her fondness for Ilan and his devotion to her and their history of friendship was precious and just so much fun to read.

I adored Ilan! He was a falconier apprentice in the palace estate but he was Anna’s best childhood friend. He loved her as a brother would a sister and he was protective of her, accompanying her on her dangerous trek throughout the book in search for their answers. With Ilan’s love of falcons, I could easily see Ilan, Anna and Jovanni having a friendship and bond no other could break.

Jovanni was heroic and fearless in his search for his sister and then for Anna. The romance between Anna and Jovanni was tender and light. Yes, there were complications, conflict and secrets, but as things unfolded, it made me smile and left me with happy feelings. They were sweet together and fit perfectly.

Story...
This is the second book I’ve read by author Lena Goldfinch and I can honestly say, she has a special gift for writing a phenomenal and engaging story wrapped in old world fantasy and romance with a unique and entertaining flair. Her characters are rich, developed and always charismatic. The world building ranges from dreary to opulent but always breathtaking and wondrous. I was captivated and engaged the whole way through and I didn’t want the story to end!

Wish List...
I wish we knew more about the histories of the il Sentiro as well as the seer and their role with the cities people. Why after a hundred years, did the power return and where does it go from there. There were some questions that I would have liked answered to make this a more rounded story.

The Wrap Up:
Aire is a fun, exciting, sweet and adventurous tale of romance, intrigue and diversity, where young love really can conquer all. I loved this read. I loved the characters. I loved the story, and as I’ve stated before, I'm now and forever a fan of this author. On to the next!
